Hawaii Dreamin’ – First stop Kauai
No surprises here. Hawaii is beautiful. It’s green, it’s blue, it’s wet, it’s stunning and it’s incredible. This was our last stop on our almost 13 month long journey and it was a great way to end a year of amazing places. To make things better, we were meeting my parents, Sean’s mum and his 2 brothers (my brother was already with us from California) here. We hadn’t seen any of them for over a year and hence, excitement levels were running very high.
Sean, Sam and I boarded our flight in San Fran whilst the others boarded theirs in Sydney. We met in Honolulu Airport and had a couple of hours catch-up time before our connecting flight to our first destination, Kauai.
On Kauai we stayed very close to Hanalei Bay in a beautiful house surrounded by lush greenery!
Hanalei Bay pictured below is front and centre on Kauai’s north shore. The Bay is beautiful, has good waves, this picturesque pier (photo below) and a groovy set of shops with a delicious (albeit a little expensive) bakery and coffee shop.
The Bay is surrounded by huge green cliffs. It’s pretty surreal to be sitting out on your board, looking back at the beach to see numerous waterfalls cascading out of the surrounding green walls. Definitely one of the more picturesque locations we’ve surfed.
One of our days in Hanalei we decided to try the Kalalau Trail. Unfortunately we only did the very beginning of the trail, from Ke’e Beach to Hanakapi’ai Beach. This section although short is steep in parts and really, really beautiful. If you’re there you should definitely check it out!
Whilst on Kauai we also took a day trip the the beautiful Poipu! We drove over early in the day, spent the day at the beach surfing and swimming and thens headed to Waimea Canyon as a late afternoon treat.
The family selfie we got was worth all the time in the car. At least I think it was.
The last few days on the island were spent doing the same thing. Hanging out, surfing and relaxing at the beach.
Next stop Oahu!
Excellent read and just perfect pictures – you guys can’t stop smiling! When can I read more about your trip? Oahu is amazing, but I guess you already know that hehe.
Thanks! It’ hard not to smile, Kauaii is stunning!! Oahu is also beautiful, post on that coming soon!
